PREPARE TO GET BOWLED OVER ONCE AGAIN AT PRIDE IN GATESHEAD
It was a day of highs – or should we say jack high – of perfect shots and of the occasional toucher (look it up!).
The region’s first Pride Lawn Bowling Tournament was a huge success – and now we’re preparing to do it all again.
Last year 16 teams battled it out at Pelaw Lawn Bowling Club in a day filled with laughter and the spirit of competition.
Council leaders played alongside drag queens, representatives from a range of charities, community groups, businesses and even a team from local MP Kate Osborne.
At the end of the day it was Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service which swept to glory and lifted the trophy but they weren’t the only victors as the event raised a staggering £2245 for the bowling club.
Last year’s teams will no doubt want to return this time round to try and snatch the win for themselves – and we’re also now on the lookout for new players to join the fun.
The Pride Lawn Bowling Tournament will take place on Sunday 10 August, when between 10am and 4pm everyone can channel their inner lawn bowler – and have a great day at the same time.
Spectators can watch the event for free, while businesses are encouraged to enter a team of four for £350 which includes lunch and refreshments.
£150 of the fee from each team goes to the bowling club to support their charity.
Club chairman, Geoff Dunkley, said the first event had been a huge success and he was looking forward to it being repeated.
“It proved such a fantastic day of chaotic fun that everyone wanted to do it again,” he said.
“Pelaw Community Bowling Club is pleased to be working with Out North East once again to stage this unique tournament and hope it will become an annual event.”
