Give Your Time. Build Community

Volunteering with OUT North East and the ONE Centre is about more than giving your time, it is about helping to build a stronger, more connected LGBTQI+ community across the region.

At the ONE Centre, our 20+ volunteers play a key role in shaping a welcoming space where people can meet, learn, share experiences, and support one another. Whether you are greeting someone and setting up events, helping organise an event, contributing to arts and creative projects, supporting LGBTQI+ histories and research, doing outreach to promote the ONE Centre, or helping us tell community stories through media and archives, your contribution helps create a centre that truly belongs to the community.

Volunteering with us can also be a great opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence, and meet people who share your values. Many volunteers gain experience in areas such as community engagement, events, outreach, research, media production, arts programming, and community leadership.

We aim to make volunteering inclusive, flexible, and supportive. Volunteers receive induction, guidance and ongoing support from our team, and we are always happy to explore ways that your interests, ideas and skills can grow within the organisation.

Most importantly, volunteering with OUT North East means becoming part of a community that values care, solidarity and pride. For your time and effort, we offer rewards such as hotel stays, discounted concert tickets, and annual awards for the volunteers who go the extra mile.

You must be able to keep Saturday 12th September 2026 free for a mandatory Volunteer Induction (10am to 2pm) if you are successful in the role.

Become a friend of one

The ONE Centre is the North East's only dedicated LGBTQ+ community centre, welcoming everyone. A place where you can be yourself, feel supported and know you belong.

More than just a building, the ONE Centre is a community. It’s somewhere people can feel safe, supported and accepted. Every month, hundreds of people walk through our doors. Some come to make new friends. Some join community groups or wellbeing activities. Some need practical advice or support through difficult times. Others simply want a cup of tea, a friendly conversation and the reassurance that they will always be welcomed with a smile. Many tell us it's the first place they have ever truly felt accepted.

Our work reaches far beyond the ONE Centre. We support people across the North East through outreach, Pride events, partnerships and community projects, helping people who are isolated, living in rural communities or unable to access support where they live.

Every monthly donation, no matter the size, helps keep the ONE Centre open, welcoming and free for everyone. By becoming a monthly supporter, you'll help provide a safe space where people can connect, find support, make friends and be themselves. From just £5 a month, little more than the price of a coffee, you can make a real difference.

Your monthly donation helps us:

• Keep the ONE Centre open, welcoming and free to access.
• Provide a safe space where people can connect, belong and be themselves.
• Deliver free community groups, wellbeing activities and one to one support.
• Reach LGBTQ+ people across the North East through outreach, events and partnerships.
• Ensure nobody is excluded because they cannot afford to take part.

A Friend donates £5 per month, helping to provide a warm welcome, free refreshments and a friendly environment where people can connect, make friends and feel that they belong. As a thank you, Friends receive an exclusive ONE enamel badge, an exclusive ONE mug after 12 months of continuous support, and a free e-newsletter with advance notice of events, talks and activities.

An Ally donates £10 per month, directly supporting free community activities, well-being sessions and outreach work across the North East. Allies also receive an exclusive ONE enamel badge, an exclusive ONE mug after six months of continuous support, and a free e-newsletter with priority updates about upcoming events, talks and activities.

A Champion donates £20 per month, helping to secure the future of the ONE Centre by funding one-to-one support, community projects, outreach work and the safe, welcoming space that so many people rely upon. Champions receive an exclusive ONE enamel badge, an exclusive ONE mug after just three months of continuous support, together with a free e-newsletter providing advance notice of all events, talks and activities.

Whichever level you choose, your support helps ensure that the ONE Centre remains a place where LGBTQ+ people can access support, build friendships, improve their well-being and be part of a thriving community.

The Rainbow Lottery is a not-for-profit organisation that supports LGBTQ+ communities across the UK while offering players the chance to win prizes.

When you play, you can nominate OUT North East as your chosen cause, meaning a portion of your ticket goes directly towards supporting our work across the region. Every ticket helps us continue providing safe spaces, community activities, and vital support for LGBTQ+ people in the North East - making a difference simply by taking part.
