Projects and Research
OUT North East delivers projects and research that build stronger, more connected communities across the North East.
At the heart of our work is people - bringing individuals together, reducing isolation, and creating spaces where everyone can feel seen, supported and valued, whatever their age or identity.
Our advice and support projects provide practical help when it’s most needed, alongside compassionate listening and trusted guidance.
For many, this is a lifeline; for others, it’s the first step towards confidence, connection and belonging. We actively reach people who might otherwise be excluded, meeting communities where they are and responding quickly to emerging needs.
Creativity runs through everything we do. From storytelling and heritage projects to arts-based wellbeing and digital inclusion, creative output is a powerful way for people to share experiences, celebrate identity and build pride in who they are. These projects don’t just create work - they create community.
Advocacy is central to our mission. We amplify LGBTQ+ voices, challenge inequality and work with partners to ensure lived experience shapes services, policy and public conversation. By reacting to change and proactively reaching across generations, cultures and identities, OUT North East continues to grow resilient, inclusive communities where everyone belongs.

A new report from Out North East, supported by my office, highlights the real experiences of LGBTQ+ people across our region - and the findings make clear we still have work to do. Thanks to OUT North East for producing this important report, giving a voice to our communities and driving real change
