Research and Reports
OUT North East produces accessible, evidence based reports that capture real social impact and amplify community voices.
Rooted in deep community engagement, our reports are shaped by listening - to lived experience, emerging needs and the realities facing LGBTQIA+ people across the North East.
We speak with our communities, not just about them, ensuring stories, data and insight are gathered ethically and respectfully. At the same time, we help organisations, commissioners and decision-makers genuinely reach the communities they want to support, translating experience into understanding and action.
Our reports explore health, mental health, wellbeing and inequality, highlighting gaps in provision while offering practical recommendations for change. They are regularly used to inform services, influence policy and improve practice across sectors.
Crucially, all our reports are free to access. By removing barriers to information, we maximise social impact, support collaboration and ensure knowledge leads to meaningful change for individuals, communities and systems alike.
Commission a Report
If you want to connect with LGBTQIA+ communities in a meaningful and authentic way, we’d be delighted to work with you. OUT North East offers bespoke research and insight grounded in trust, care and long standing relationships across the region.
We support organisations to ask the right questions, reach the right people and gather insight that reflects real lives and real experiences. From health and wellbeing to access, equality and inclusion, our commissioned reports are designed to inform decision making and drive positive change.
Every project is shaped collaboratively, with an emphasis on listening, integrity and practical outcomes. If you’re interested in commissioning a report and starting a thoughtful, community led conversation, let’s talk.
Reports
SafertobeMe
We were commissioned by the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, with support from The William Leech Charity, to run an LGBTphobia survey with LGBTQ+ people across the North East. It asked our community to share their experiences, how safe they feel day to day, and what must change to make the region safer, fairer, and more inclusive.
LGBTQ+ Community Centre Findings
We spoke with LGBTQ+ people across the North East to understand what they wanted from a new community space.Through conversations, surveys, and engagement sessions, people shared what would help them feel safe, welcome, and able to thrive - and what they felt had been missing. Their voices directly shaped the vision and design of what is now the ONE Centre.
